HAPPY EASTER!

HE IS RISEN!

On behalf of Father Dan and the entire Corpus Christi Saint Bernard team,  please accept our wishes for a joyous and blessed Easter Season!

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,  who in his great mercy gave us a new birth to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

NOVENA TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

We invite you all to pray along with us a Novena for the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. This Novena leads us up to Pentecost Sunday, starting nine days before Pentecost and ending on Pentecost Sunday. It is a great opportunity to connect in a unique way with the Third part of our Holy Trinity. We invite you to pray along each day and to end each day’s prayer with an Our Father, a Hail Mary, and a Glory Be. On the final day read the Closing prayer.

Day 1

Come, Holy Spirit, Lord and giver of life; be my guide in perplexity, defend me from error and lead me to truth; grant that I may know and do what is right and be in me a fountain of living water springing up into life everlasting.

Day 2

Come, O Spirit of Wisdom, and help me to know God revealed in the Word made flesh, the promise of grace and the hope of glory.

Day 3

Come, O Spirit of Understanding, and teach me to know myself and recognize God’s call to me in my daily life and work

Day 4

Come, O Spirit of Counsel, guide me in right pathways, turn me away from evil, and lead me by they commandments to the joy of eternal life.

Day 5

Come, O Spirit of Fortitude, give me courage and determination, that in all distress and uncertainty, I may with a calm and confident spirit remain strong in faith, patient in hope, and   constant love.

Day 6

Come, O Spirit of Knowledge, grant that I may know and accept the will of God, that recognizing the true value of the things of this world, I may use them rightly, and always with           thanksgiving.

Day 7

Come, O Spirit of Piety, and help me to love God with all my heart and soul and strength, that I may find in thee my best and truest joy.

Day 8

Come, Spirit of Holy Fear, that I may stand in awe of God, never presuming on mercy and never forgetting before whom I must account for my life, my actions, and my words.

Day 9

Come, O bountiful spirit, and bring forth in my life the manifold fruits of thy presence and create in me:

Love toward God and my neighbor,

Joy and wonder in all God’s work,

The peace that Jesus promises,

Patience born of faith and hope,

Kindness that reflects God’s Mercy,

Generosity that uses all as God intends,

Faithfulness that is constant and reliable,

Gentleness that I may do harm to no one,

Self control that my life will conform to the mind of Christ.

Closing Prayer

O Lord Jesus Christ Who, before ascending into heaven did promise to send the Holy Spirit to finish Your work in the souls of Your Apostles and Disciples, deign to grant the same Holy Spirit to me that He may perfect in my soul, the work of Your grace and Your love. Grant me the Spirit of Wisdom that I may despise the perishable things of this world and aspire only after the things that are eternal, the Spirit of Understanding to enlighten my mind with the light of Your divine truth, the Spirit on Counsel that I may ever choose the surest way of pleasing God and gaining heaven, the Spirit of Fortitude that I may bear my cross with You and that I may overcome with courage all the obstacles that oppose my salvation, the Spirit of Knowledge that I may know God and know myself and grow perfect in the science of the Saints, the Spirit of Piety that I may find the service of God sweet and amiable, and the Spirit of Fear that I may be filled with a loving reverence towards God and may dread in any way to displease Him. Mark me, dear Lord with the sign of Your true disciples, and animate me in all things with Your Spirit. Amen.

A Message from the Pastor

Welcome to the website of Corpus Christi - St. Bernard Parish (a Roman Catholic faith community) in the 'Garden City' of Newton. Our parish, living and thriving here on the western edge of our city, provides much to our parishioners and those outside of that description - all by the grace and life of God our Father and in the name of His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our beautiful and reverent celebrations of the Mass on Sunday are made more so by the faithful and active participation of all present. The Mass's daily and Sunday celebrations provide an oasis of grace and faith for many parishioners and those who visit. Eucharistic Adoration offers a moment of silence with the Lord and enables us to hear the voice of our Shepherd. Through the Eucharist, we can accomplish the other works of service and mercy that so define our Catholic tradition.

Each day, through the grace of Christ, we try to build this holy place of Corpus Christi-St. Bernard into a monument of what it means to be prayerfully and generously worthy of the promises of Christ-all in the middle of a public square, often alive with voices calling folks elsewhere. As you navigate these pages, please know that our parish community welcomes and prays for you.

Blessings,

Fr. Dan O'Connell

  • Our Mission Statement

"Corpus Christi-St. Bernard Parish is a Catholic faith community centered in the Eucharistic celebration. We give witness to our baptismal promises and commit ourselves to learn, love, and live the message of Jesus Christ."

  • The Spirituality of Giving

A spirit of giving supports the work of our Mission Partners in our community and beyond. Primarily, we focus on Corpus Christi-St. Bernard and the events we hold.  From time to time, we may partner with other organizations as needs arise and as we deem appropriate.  In this way, the mission of Jesus Christ is nurtured and kept alive.

“…and the one who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.”

Just a Thought from Fr. Dan

Seventh Sunday Of Easter

The readings for this Seventh week of Easter speak to us of the ongoing mission that is the centerpiece of God's love for us. Matthias is chosen to become a new Apostle, a sure sign of God the Father's attention to this newly formed group of those who follow His Son. In emphasizing God's love for us and our love for one  another, we are reminded of what our Church is called to be. It is a place where God can dwell. If God is love and we are concerned about love, we can be assured that we are helping him rebuild the world in some way every day! Together, we highlight community, love, and discipleship as thematic in all we do!

Novena of St. Bernard

St. Bernard of Clairvaux is the patron saint of the Cistercians. You can ask for his prayers if you are a Cistercian or are discerning a vocation to the Cistercians. You can also ask for his prayers on behalf of a Cistercian you know.

St. Bernard is also the patron saint of beekeepers and candle makers. You can seek his intercession if you are a beekeeper or a candle maker, or for a beekeeper or candle maker you know.

In addition, St. Bernard is the patron saint of Gibraltar and the city of Algeciras, so you can definitely seek his prayers if you live in Gibraltar or Algeciras.

You can pray the St. Bernard of Clairvaux Novena for any intention!
